Kyoung Update: New York

Greetings!

My week in New York has been a whirlwind but I’m so happy to be here! I would love it if you came to see the reading of my new play, “disOriented,” as it’ll be my last night in NY. I return to Korea Saturday morning, so there’ll be a post-reading party (at a bar nearby) where I will most probably make a fool of myself. Everyone’s invited–come one, come all… Plus, it’s free!

Ma-Yi Writer's Lab, LabFest 2008

The Info:
When: April 25th, 7 PM.
Where: Dorothy Strelsin Theatre in the Abingdon Theatre Complex / 312 West 36th Street at 8th Avenue
Director: Carlos Armesto
Cast: Cindy Cheung, Chris Larkin, Jon Norman Schneider, Arthur Acuña, Virginia Wing, Jackie Chung

What’s the play about?

When Ju Yeon’s brother unexpectedly dies, she must leave her family in New York and take her brother’s ashes to Korea. Her husband doesn’t want her to go, her children want to run away from home, and her parents just hope she returns before their time is up. A look at family, immigrant life, and death through a family in-between cultures.

“disOriented” was written while participating at the Royal Court Theatre’s Young Writer’s Programme in London and is part of the Ma-Yi Theatre’s LABFest 2008–the largest collection of new plays by Asian American authors in one stand, anywhere, ever.

I hope to see you Friday!

Kyoung
